According to the National Day Calendar, “Better Breakfast” was created during World War I as a way for the U.S. government to encourage citizens to eat better. The monthlong celebration was first promoted in 1951 by the Cereal Institute, which presented data suggesting that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. Today, it is celebrated as a National Month as a way to try new recipes, get the family together in the morning, and help children stay healthy through the new school year.
